Simon Grant is a highly sought after drumming instructor, who has taught and been involved in workshops all over the world. He started drumming at the age of 13 in Elgin with the Elgin Scottish Pipe Band. His progress was very quick and he became the leading drummer of the band within his first 6 months of starting. At the age of 16 he joined the Army and spent 11 years playing with the Highlanders Pipes and Drums. He spent the last 5 of his time in the Army as the Leading Drummer of the Highlanders Pipes and Drums, enjoying many successes in competitions both solo and as a band.

During this time he spent 3 years teaching at the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming, one of only a few schools of excellence which specialises in giving piping and drumming tuition and qualifications through the Piping and Drumming Qualifications board. Simon left the Army in May 2010 and has enjoyed playing in grade one competitions with The Clan Gregor Society Pipe Band, Fife Constabulary Police Pipe band and the Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band. He is now a musical advisor for the Army Cadet Force, an assessor for the Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board and a drumming teacher at Belhaven Hill School in Dunbar. He has taught drummers of all ages at workshops and has been in high demand for his services in all aspects of Scottish pipe band drumming.

He has been fortunate to teach at many workshops all over the world and is actively involved with the College of piping teaching workshops in many pre organised destinations.
